Three years back, the United Nations had announced the addition of Bollywood icon and former Miss World winner Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to its roster of International Goodwill Ambassadors, focussed on helping the Organization’s efforts in combating the spread of HIV infections in children.
Today, while speaking at an event organised to mark World AIDS Day, Aishwarya stressed upon the importance of sex education and spoke about the importance of making sex education compulsory in schools. She said, "Sex education is very important. We have all had it. It is important to have sex education in schools. In urban culture a lot of schools have it. I would love to find out if it it is happening across the board all over the nation.”
Aishwarya also expressed satisfaction at her role as UNAIDS Goodwill ambassador as it allowed her the opportunity to reach out to women from across the world. The actress also harped on the need to open communication lines as the key to bring in change.
