Audiences were clearly torn between two huge releases this Friday (December 18) – Rohit Shetty-directed Dilwale and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. While it would be unfair to compare the two films, the Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer emerged a clear winner in terms of Box Office collections on Day 1.
While Bajirao Mastani raked in Rs. 12.80 crore on its opening day, Dilwale collected Rs. 21 crore at the box office. The figures may tell a different story tomorrow but the fact remains that Dilwale has so far scored over Bajirao. So what does Bajirao Mastani’s leading lady, Deepika has to say about this? Has she been following the box office collections and trends?
“Not at all and I don’t want to know. I don’t understand why we equate creativity and success to numbers. I think films now need to go beyond that. The sign of a successful film is the repeat value and the films you want to watch years later. Whether it’s Piku, whether it’s Tamasha or whether it’s Bajirao Mastani I have never kept a track on Box Office figures and I don’t intend do. I am not aware of the collections at all,” says Deepika.
