While there have been many news reports saying that Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek might come together as crime partners in the sequel to the 2002 thriller Aankhen, to be directed by Anees Bazmee, Amitabh refuted these rumours and clarified saying, “No, Abhishek is not doing Aankhen 2.”
It may be recalled that the prequel, which was directed by Vipul Shah, was a nail-biting crime thriller based on a Gujarati play, Andhalo Pato. It had Amitabh Bachchan (a disgruntled former bank employee) hatching a plan to rob the bank he worked for, with three blind men, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal and Paresh Rawal. They succeed in their mission but then things go haywire.
Meanwhile, Aankhen 2, which will roll end of March.this year, will take off from where the original left. John Abraham will play one of the blind men in the sequel. Earlier, Anees had said that Akshay and Arjun won't be back, their journey having ended with the first film, but Big B will return as the baddie. ‘He's the soul of the film,’ adding that Anil Kapoor has also been roped in for an interesting role.’
